The Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (SABMF) was founded by the Governors of the 19 northern states of Nigeria in cooperation with the associates, friends, admirers and well-wishers of the late Sir Ahmadu Bello, KBE, the Sardauna of Sokoto and Premier of the defunct northern region.
The Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation was established to pursue the legacy of leadership and good governance bequeathed by late Sir Ahmadu Bello to bring Northern Nigeria back to reckoning in terms of human and economic development. It was launched in 2009.
To be the foremost catalyst for the unity, peace and socio – economic development of Northern Nigeria in the context of one Nigeria
Through evidence based research to promote programmes that shall improve the competiveness of Northern Nigeria and thereby positively affect its development and contribute to National development.
From inception, the Foundation has a ten (10) registered member Board of Trustees, as follows:

The Advisory Council (ADCO) of the Foundation is the second body in the governance structure responsible for all matters relating to advisory services, making recommendations to the Board; strategic direction, plans, budgets, and superintend on the Management Team of the Foundation.
At inception, the Foundation had a 14 member Advisory Council. However, five members were deceased.
